In the ever-evolving dialogue between art and motorsport, a bold new chapter is being written by Italian artist Matteo Macchiavelli—a name that carries with it both noble heritage and artistic revolution. Known globally as a trailblazer in applying Pop Art to the adrenaline-fueled world of racing, Macchiavelli has long defied the boundaries of traditional artistic expression.

His rise to fame began with Senna Now, a project that saw him hand-paint the first-ever Formula 1 car as a work of art an audacious creation that turned heads at the Monaco Grand Prix in 2022 and was acquired by renowned watch collector and YouTuber Roman Sharf. But that was only the ignition point.

Sculpting Legends: From the racetrack to timeless ceramic form

Matteo Macchiavelli turns to sculpture— his most intimate artistic pursuit—channeling his passion for motorsport into Art Helmet, a series of handcrafted ceramic artworks that immortalize the most legendary helmets in Formula 1 history.

To bring this vision to life, he partnered with Cerasarda, a historic ceramic manufacturer founded in 1963 by Prince Karim Aga Khan in the heart of Costa Smeralda. Merging the timeless elegance of Mediterranean craft with cutting-edge ceramic techniques, Cerasarda became the perfect ally in this ambitious artistic mission.

Out of this creative alliance came sculptural tributes to the greatest warriors of the track: from the fearless legacy of Gilles Villeneuve and the rebellious charm of James Hunt, to the disciplined genius of Niki Lauda, the burning intensity of Ayrton Senna, and the modern brilliance of Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, and Max Verstappen. Each helmet is more than a replica—it is a sculpture of soul and speed, frozen in time yet alive with motion.

The Alchemy of Art: Material, light and emotion in every piece

Every Art Helmet requires over 100 hours of meticulous manual work: shaped, glazed, and fired entirely by hand through long, delicate processes that transform raw ceramic into what can only be described as sculptural poetry.

To elevate each helmet to the level of a true objet d’art, Macchiavelli integrates precious materials such as gold, bronze, and silver, subtly woven into the surface to evoke both prestige and power.

The colors, too, are a work of art. Macchiavelli uses only natural mineral-based pigments, chosen for their brilliance and chromatic depth. When combined with Cerasarda’s signature glazes, they create a vivid luminosity that shifts and evolves under changing light—echoing the ever-dynamic nature of Formula 1 itself.

Art Helmet is more than a collection.
It is a declaration: that racing is not just speed—it's story, identity, and legacy.
And through the hands of Macchiavelli, these legacies are sculpted into eternity.
